#7C Las Almendras - Almonds

What was the secret in the beginning of this chapter?

How is the answer to the secret a symbol?

Miguel tells that the secret is a symbol, page 124. What is it a symbol of?

What is the difference between a company camp and the camps where Marta works?

Why does Marta and others want to strike?

What are the consequences of striking?

How has the relationship between Esperanza and her mother changed? Gove proof.

The secret in the beginning of this chapter is Alfonso and Miguel made a statue of Lady of Guadalupe. This is the answer to the secret because on page 122 it says,"'Shh,' he said 'it's a suprise.' 'why are you so full of secrets?' asked Esperanza." The difference between a company camp and Marta's camp, is a company camp people who work there do not leave. Where in Marta's camp people strike for things like raises, better houses, etc. Marta and her friends want to strike because they want better houses. The consequences of strikng are losing your job, which is not really what you wanted. The relationship between Mama and Esperanza has increased because since Papa has died, all they have is eachother

The secret in the beginning of this chapter is that Alfonso and Miguel built statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe with roses surrounding it. The answer to the secret is a symbol of Papa's heart following them wherever they go. I know this because on page 125 it states, ""Didn't I tell you that Papa's heart would find us wherever we go?"" It is a symbol that she could drink the memories of roses that had known Papa. The difference between a company camp and the camps where Marta works is that Marta moves around to find work, sometimes all of the state. They go to work whereever there is something to be harvested. The company camp is where people who work there don't leave. Some stay for many years. Marta and the others want to strike for better houses and for more money for those who pick cotton. The consequences are that they would lose there jobs and the farms would simply hire others to replace them. The relationship between Esperanza and her mother has changed because since Papa died they want to spend more time with each other because all they have is each other.

The secret in the beginning of this chapter was that Miguel and Alfonso were making a bath tub for everyone to get in wash up. This answer was the secret simble because the lady of Guodaloopae was on it. The simble is is the lady of Guodaloopae. The diffrence in the camps are that the company camps allow people to work there from all over the country. The camp where Marta works only people from Mexico can work their. Marta and the others want to go on strike becuase they did not want to work so hard any more. The consequences of going on strike were that they might not be able to work any more. The relation ship between mama and Esperanza changed because

The secret in the beginning of the chapter is that Miguel and Alfonso built a statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe surrounded by roses from Mexico. I know this is the answer to the secret symbol because on pg.122 it says, "Shhh, he said. It's a surprise. Why are you so full of secrets? asked Esperanza. The secret is a symbol of Papa's heart that will follow Esperanza and Mama everywhere. The difference between a company camp and camps where Marta live is, at a company camp people stay there and are grateful for what they have. However, people that live at camps like Marta's, they try to strike for more money, better homes and so on. Marta and the others want to strike because they think that they need better home and more money when they don't even think of the consequences for striking. The consequences for striking are that you get kicked out of the camp (or in other words fired). After they get fired new people come in to replace them. The relationship between Mama and Esperanza have changed because they don't see each other very often because of work and that they are tired after work every day so they don't talk to each other as often. I kind of guessed that they don't talk to each other as much and now I kind of think they still do.

I disagree with #11 and #22. They were not alone. They had Alfonso, Miguel, Hortensia, Isabel, Josefina, Juan and the babies.

The secret is that Miguel made a shrine with papa's roses. The smybol is papa's heart following them wereever they go. The difference between the camps is that a company camp is permenent and Marta's is not. Marta wants to srike Because she gets very little money and has a terrible camp. The consequences of striking are being fiered and sent back to Mexico. Esperanza and her mother are togetther more now because they are not rich

Great job everybody!
Here are my answers:
On page 122 it tells me a secret belonging to Alonso and Miguel. The made a statue of Lady Guadelupe. Here's the quote: "Shh,' he said 'it's a surprise.' 'Why are you so full of secrets?' asked Esperanza." Oh, and #11, I realized you accidentally left out the 2nd and third part of this assignment. The symbol on page 124 are the roses that had "known Papa". The difference between the two camps is this: a company camp is a camp where the workers don't leave. "Some stay for many years." (thanks #22, for that.) Marta moves around the state to fing work. Marta wants the others to strike bacause they want better houses (stupid excuse, tough luck for them.) This so called "striking" will most likely result in all of those girls losing their jobs and everything they have to their names (not much.) Those are the main consequenses, and I'd say they're pretty harsh. So, maybe, Marta and her little friends should ALL get back to work to maybe earn some money for their families! The relationship between Esperanza and Mama has changed drastically since Papa died. Now-a-days, they cling to each other. This figure of speech means they're all each other have, so maybe they should keep themselves together, as a family.

Thanks #11, for the secret,
and #22 for all that good descripion. Great job guys!

The secret in the beginning of this chapter is when Esperanza finds out that the thing Miguel and Alfonso kept watering at the train stations were roses from Papa's garden.I know this because on page 123 it says "But these roses come from far away. Esperanza searched Miguels face, her eyes hopeful. Papa's? Yes these are your Papa's roses said Miguel." I think the answer to the secret is a symbol for Esperanza, Mama, Alfonso, and Miguel to remember Papa. A company camp is a camp where people stay to work for a long time. It states this on page 134 when it says "Our camp is a company camp and people who work here don't leave. Some live here for many years." The type of camp where Marta works is called a migrant camp where people work where ever there is something to be harvested. Sometimes having to travel across the state. It states this on pages 133 and 134 where it says "She and her mother move around to find work, sometimes all over the state, said Josefina. They work where ever there is something to be harvested." Marta and the others want to strike to get better houses and to get paid more for picking cotton. It states this on page 134 when it says "They want to strike for better houses? asked Esperanza. That and more money for those who pick cotton." The consequences for striking are losing your job. It states this on page 134 when it says "There are many of us who don't want to get involved in the strike because we can't afford to lose our jobs." I think that Esperanza and Mama's relationship has gotten stronger because Papa is dead Mama and Esperanza get more time to spend with eachother.

The secret in the beginning of this chapter is that Alfonso and the others built a shrine with Papa's roses (from back in Augascalientes) on it. The answer to the secret is a symbol because the answer is a rose and the rose is a symbol. I think the rose is a symbol of hope. I think this because on page 124 it says, "Which one is mine? He smiled and pointed to the one that was closest to the cabin wall and already had a makeshift trellis propped agaist it. So you can climb, he said. This proves my answer because when Miguel says, "So you can climb" I think he hopes that Esperanza will "climb" or do well in her new life. The difference between a company camp and the camp where Marta works is at the company camp no one goes on strike but at the camp where Marta works the people go on strike for better things such as the price of cotton and better houses. The consequence for going on strike is you give up your job and people from Oklahoma are hired. Proof of this is on page 135 where it says, And now, more people are coming to the valley to look for work, especially from places like Oklahoma, where there is little work, little rain, and little hope. If the Mexicans strike, the big farms will simply hire others." The relationship between Eperanza and Mama has changed because they talk to each other more now that Papa has died. Also, out of all the hard work that they do throughout the day, there must be something to talk about.

The secret in the beginning of Las Almendres is that Alfonso and Miguel made "a little shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe." (p. 123), with roses they also kept secret, which were the remaining ones that survived the fire at the ranch. The difference between a company camp and the camp Marta works is that a company camp, you can't leave. It's like one notch being a hostage who's forced to ork to survive. Marta and the others want to strike to get better work conditions. If Marta strikes, she might get fired, which would be counter productive. The relationship between mama and Esperanza has changed because they aren't rich and they don't have papa anymore, only each other.

I think Esperanza and her mother changed because when they work they work in different areas and they don't get to see each other very much.

The secret at the beginning of the chapter is that Alfonso and Miguel replanted Papa's roses from El Rancho De Las Rosas. It is a symbol that what Mama said was true: "Papa's heart would follow us wherever we go." (page 25) I think Miguel was trying to say that the roses were a symbol of Papa. The difference between company camps and camps like Marta's camp is that in company camps you stay for many years and in other camps you don't stay very long. Marta and other people want to strike because they think if they don't work the employers will beg them to work again and will pay them more and give them better housing. Some consequences of striking are employers finding other workers and never getting jobs back. I think the relationship between Esperanza and her mother changed because they have probably spent more time together than on the ranch. "Esperanza was surprised that Mama knew just how to brown it first in oil with onions and peppers." (page 121) This shows that Esperanza didn't know something about Mama and she just learned it.

The secret in this chapter was that Alfonso and Miguel made a statue of the Lady of Guadalupe. That helped tell me that the symbol ment that papi is always going to be with Esperanza wherever she goes. Here is the proof on page 124 "We think they will grow. In time, we will see how many have bloomed." When miguel said "bloomed" it struck me and I immediatly felt Papi is growing closer to Esperanza, he is blooming!! The difference between a company camp and the camp where Martta works is that in the adults at marta's camp want more and more money. In the mob that Marta was creating, she basicly just yelled to everyone that she wanted more money! In the other camp, it is the complete opposite, the families there are happy to have a job. Marta wants to strike because she thinks her family needs more. She ruins everything she can get her hands on. I would not strike because the owner or counsler (whoever) will get upset, blame Marta and her family, and then they become gonners! No one wants to hire a family that wants a pay raise...especially at this time!!! The relationship between Esperanza and her mother is that they are getting used to the maiden life. They laughed alot more than usual and they talk to eachother and help bath themselves.

I know this because on pg, 125 it says, "Didn't I tell you Pap's heart would find us wherever we went?" The difference between a company camp and the camps where Marta workes are different because the company camps they have houses and better working conditions. But in the camps Marta works in they probably live in tents and have bad working conditions. MArta and the others want to strike because they work at camps where they make little money and have bad working and living conditions. The consequences of striking could men getting fired of at the worst getting lower wages and worse conditions.
the relationship between Esperanza and her mother has changed because they have grown closer by sticking together when they don't know many people in the new place and they have to learn to do knew jobs.

The secret in the beggining of this chapter is ALfanso and Meguil made a littel statue of the lady of Guadalupe and srounded it with some of papa roses.( witch includes Esperanzas and Meguils.)This is an answer a secret simbol because the flowers where burned in the fire but there roots where still alive and like a phenox the rose from the ashes and brought hope to the familey. The diffrance between a companey camp and a strikers camp like martas is,the company camps work for money and food and the strikers dont work and go on strike for better houseing, more money heat and electricaty.Marta and her camp want to strike becaue they think because they are helpless they should have running water and be treated like kings and queens. Some of the consequenses of strikeing are being transfered to other camps where you sleep in tents, NOT SHEDS,and get paied a PENNEY a DAY!!One of the more serveer consequenses of strikeing are being sent back to where your ansestors came from EVEN IF YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN THERE IN YOR INTIRE LIFE!!!

The secret at the beginning of this chapter-(Las Almendras)-is that Alfonso and Miguel were SO thoughtful to plant some of the remaining roses from Papa's garden in Aguascalientes to their working camp and also, they used an old washtub to create a memorial prayer place-(a statue)- of their Lady of Guadalupe, too. I know this because on page 122 and 123 it says,"Behind the cabin was an old oval washtub with one end cut off. It had been set on its side, forming a little shrine around a platic statue of Our Lady of Guadulupe...Around it, a large plot of earth had been fenced in by sticks and rope and planted with thorny stems, each with only a few branches." The answer to the secret is a symbol because Miguel made her rose the one that was already on the wall-(page 124) and said that it was "so you can climb". I think it relates back to the title of this book because it is called "Esparanza Rising" and she is learning and her attitude is changing just like a rose changes as it grows. First of all, a company camp is a camp where people work and don't leave. On the other hand, a camp like Marta's is always traveling and doesn't stay in the same place. Marta and her friends want to strike because they want better houses and pay for people who pick cotton-(page 134). The consequences for people like Esparanza is that they could lose their work and their jobs are very important! The relationship between Esparanza and Mama has changed because they now are more loose and know how they should expect their life to be like. This can be found on 136.

The secret in the beginning of this chapter is the statue of the Lady of Guadalupe that was built by Miguel and Alfonso. The secret is a symbol because it represents Papa. The answer to the secret is a symbol because the secret symbolizes "Papa's heart that will always follow Esperanza and Mama forever."(pg.122) The difference of the company camps and camps are that company camps work and are happy to be where they are. As for the camps where Marta works, they're always striking for more money. Marta and the others want to strike because they want higher wages and better housing. The consequences of striking are that people might lose their jobs. The relationship between Mama and Esperanza has changed because Esperanza is now doing things on her own which shows Mama that she doesn't always need help. For example, Esperanza understood Mama when she said Esperanza is not going to be waited on. I know this because on page 126 it says, " I've been thinking that you are old enough to bathe yourself, don't you think?" Esperanza quickly dropped arms and remembered what Marta's taunting voice saying, " No one will be waiting on you here." " Yes, Mama", she said, and for the second time in two days, she felt her burning face as everyone stared at her."

These gifts symbolize that the roses are in remberence of Papa and the statue represents hope. The secret in the beginning of the chapter is Our Lady of Guadalupe with roses surrounding it. I know this because on page 123 it says “A plastic statue of Our lady of Guadalupe. Someone had built a grotto of rocks around the base of the tub. Around it, a large plot of earth had been fenced in by sticks and rope and planted with thorny stems, each a few with branches. The secret symbol is papa’s heart being with Esperonza. I know this because on page 125 it says “Didn’t I tell you Papa’s heart would find us wherever we go. The symbol that represents papa’s heart is papa’s roses I know the roses are papa’s because on page 123 it says “’Yes, these your papa’s roses,” said Miguel smiling at her.” The difference between a company camp and the camp where Marta works is at the company camp the people that live there do not want to leave because there grateful for what they have I know this because on page 134 it says “”Our camp is a company camp and people who work here don’t want to leave. Some live here for many years. That is why we came to this country. To work.” At Marta’s camp they strike. Another difference about the camps is at Marta’s camp the pick cotton at the camp where Esperanza works they dig up onions. At Marta’s they strike for money by raising the cotton prices and better living. I know this because on page 134 it says, ““They want to strike for better houses?” asked Esperanza. “That and more money for those who pick cotton,” said Josefina. “They only get seven cents a pound for picking cotton. They want ten cents a pound. It seems like such a small price to pay, but in the past, the growers said no.”” the consequences of striking are losing your job. I know this because on page 134 it says “There are many of us who don’t want to get involved in strike because we can’t afford to lose our jobs.” Mama and Esperanza’s relation ship has changed a lot since papa died. I know this because there bonding more. They did this after the party.

The secret was a symbol because the statue was a symbol.
The symbol is Our Lady of Guadalupe. I know this because on page 123 it says "It had been set on it's side, forming a little shrine around a plastic statue of Our lady of Guadalupe."
The difference between a company camp and the camp Marta works for is that you cannot leave a company camp.
Marta and the others want to strike because they want better housing and Marta does not think it's fair for all the rich people to get all the better things.
The consequences of striking are losing you job, home, or even life.
The relationship between Mama and Esperasnza have changed because Mama is not treating Esperanza like a baby anymore by giving her baths.

The secret in the beginning is that Alfonso and Miguel won't let Esperanza see that behind the cabin was Our Lady of Guadalupe. I know that because on page 122 and 123 it says "Behind the cabin was an old oval washtub with one end cut off. It had been set on it's sied, forming a little shrine around a plastic statue or Our Lady of Guadalupe."
The difference between a company camp and where Marta works is that company camps don't give alot of freedom to the workers. At Marta's camp they can leave the camp. Also at Marta's camp they can have a bit of fun my throwing paries and fun activies.
Marta and the others want to strike to get better conditions for houses, get payed more for their jobs and get treated better then like animals.
The consequences of striking are that they could get even the people who didn't want o strike fired and themselves, too.
I think since Mama and Esperanza's relationship has changed because at the ranch they had servants do what ever thay wanted ,but now working they have moved close to each other because they talk about what they miss and also they talk about what they miss.

The secret in the beginning of the chapter is ine and the roses that are in a amall package. The answer to the secret is symbol because the roses are a sybol of El Rancho de las Rosas. The secreat is a symbol of the rancha and Papa. The secret is also a symbol of memories. The differnence between a company camp and the camp where Marta works at is that at company camp nobody leaves they are all there to work. Where as at the camp Marta works people leave frequently. marta andd the others want to stike because they feel like they are being treated like dirt. marta also wants hire wages and better housing. The consequences of striking is if they lose they could all lose their jobs, house, and everything they have. The secret in the beginning of the chapter is that Miguel and Alfonso got Juan's statue of the Lady of Guadalupe, around it is a Papa's roses. "It had been set on it's side forming a little shrine around a plastic statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe. ..Yes, those are Papa's roses." I got all of that from page 123. The secret is a symbel because of the roses. This is a symbol because the roses are the symbol of Papa, and Papa will follow them where ever they go. The diffrence between a compony camp and the camp where Marta works is that Esperanza's camp is a family camp, the people there don't leave. Also they don't want to risk their jobs by going on strike. In Marta's camp it is diffrent. The people only get 7 cents for each pound of cotten they pick. Marta and others wants to go on strike because they think they are treated like animals. They need more money and better housing. On page 132 it says, "This is what we are!" she yelled. " Small, meek animals. And that is how they treat us because we don't speak up." Marta and her friends all held up kittens, comparing their lifes to meek and small kittens. The consequences of striking is you might lose your job. A lot of people don't strike because, if they do they can get fired. On page 133 it says, "He yelled back. That is a chance we cannot take. We must work. That's why we came here. Get out of our camp!!" This is why somepeople just can't talk the risk of striking!! The relationship between Mama and Esperanza changed because they talk together more. Not just about what jewelry they are going to where to dinner. (they may not talk about that) They are getting to know each other in diffrent way. From page 136, 137 and 138 it says, " That is true. Esperanza, do you know that I am proud of you? For all the things that you are learning. Esperanza snuggled closer.... Mama huged her. I will prey for you, Esperanza. That you will be strong. No matter what happens." Another quote from page 136 is," I miss my friends, said Esperanza. I know it is hard. Do you know what I miss? I miss my dresses. Mama! Esperanza said, laughing that Mama would admit such a thing to her." This proves that even they are in a hard time that they can still get laughs in here and there!

tHE SECRET AT THE BEGINNING OF this Chapter was that Alfonso and Miguel had taken the roots from Papa's burnt roses and planted them in their yard. They framed a statue Our Lady of Gaudalupe. The answer to the secret was a symbol of Papa's heart finding them wherever they go.Papa's heart followed them because they were his roses that they planted.I know this because on page 125 it says,"Didn't I tell you Papa's heart will find us wherever we go." That was Mama talking to Esperanza after she looks at the statue and how it's been framed. The difference between camps is that the company camps have much better housing yet they must pay some rent for each month that one family stays there. The camps where Marta works they live in tents and get paid much less. Also, they don't get fiesta's and jamiaca's like they do at company camps.Marta and the others want to strike so that they can have better housing and more pay for the labor they do.This fair and it is not wrong what they are doing, but they are threatning people into striking. The consequences of striking and being caught are a loss of job and a loss of all the money your family had and so, many people who struck either had no family to feed or didn't particularly want to feed their family. To be fair that was a strong opinoin because many who struck wanted only the best for all of their family. These consequences are bad seeing as all families had children to feed because there was one house per man with a family.I think that Esperanza and her mom have grown a lot closer and Esperanza is almost if not quite equals with Mama and they have a lot of respect for each other now that they both have to work. I think Esperanza has aquired respect(I mean not being treated like little girl)from Mama because she has shown that she is, if relunctantly, ready to work and even if sometimes she expects to be babied, she has mostly grown out of it in a short week.

The secret at the beginning was the the roses from papas garden at El Rancho De Las Rosas. It is a secret because Miguel was unable to tell anyone and neither was Alfonso. It is a symbol of Papas love. It is also a symbol that Miguel really cares about Esperanza and wishes to make her happy. The difference between the company camps and Martas camps are that at the company camps keeping a job is more important but at Martas camp they think that whenever something gets a little better they should put their jobs to make it even better Also Martas camp is Migrant which means it moves all around as apposed to staying in one place.. Marta and the others want to strike to get higher wages and better housing. I know this because on page it says " 'They want to strike for better houses?' " The consequences are risking to lose everything that the people they are striking against supply them. The relationship between Esperanza and mama has changed because They are now even closer than before because the tragedies made them stick together and their bond will grow the more they go through.

The secret in the beginning are the roses that Miguel and Alfonso brought from El Rancho de la Rosas. This is a symbol because it represents Papa's heart and memory. I know this because on page 124 it says,"Now if they bloomed she could drink the memories of the roses that have known Papa" and on page 125 it says,"Didn't I tell you that Papa's heart would find us wherever we go?" That is also what it is a symbol of.
The difference between the two camps is that a company camp is a camp that in which the people do not leave but live there. Also, unlike Marta's camp, people cannot afford to lose their job and strike.
Marta and her friends wants to strike because she thinks that workers, especially cotton pickers, do not get enough money. Also they think that the place where the people live is too shabby, and that Mexicans should stand up for themselves, and strike for civil rights.
The consequences of striking is that you could lose your job and become unable to feed your family. That would be very unfortunate.
the relationship between Esperanza and her mother has changed and they have become closer to each other. I know this because on page 136 Mama confesses that she missed her dresses as Esperanza missed her friends. People who are close to one another often confess things and share connections.

The secret in the beginning of this chpater was that Alfonso and Miguel were going to the back of the cabin and wouldn't let anyone come with them because they were busy building a grotto of rocks "planted with thorny stems..." as a surprise for Ezperanza and Mama. The thorny stems were saved by Alfonso and Miguelat Aguascalientes
.The roots of the roses are a symbol representing a new life. Also, the roses represent Papa's love and him being with Esperanza and Mama in there hearts. The roses represent Papa's love because they were a part of him. The difference between a company camp and the camp where Marta works is in a company camp you get chances to go to school ad you get your own cabin, but you need a work recommendation to get in.In the camps where Marta works they don't have cabins, they live in tents and the cotton pickers only get payed 7 cents a pound.Marta and others want to strike for better housing and a larger pay.The consequence of striking are losing your job.The relationship between Esperanza and Mama has changed because, now they are becoming closer by going through such hard times. Esperanza tells Mama, "I miss my friends." Mama admits, "I miss my dresses." Esperanza laughs and is surprised that Mama is being so honest and open with her. Mama tells Esperanza that she is so proud of her "for all that you are learning." They are closer than ever, laughing together and sharing their thoughts and feelings
They are friends now too not only mother and daughter and have to stick together and pray together to get through these hard times.

The secret in the bigining of this chapter was that Alfonso and Miguel made a statue of the lady Guadaloupe. This was the answer to this secret because on page 122 it says,"Shh he said it is a suprise. why are yuo so full of secrets today". The difference between a company camp and Marta's camp is that camps do not let the worker do alot and also in company camp's people do not allow you to leave the camp. Marta and the others want to stike because they want to get 10 cents for a puond a cotton not 7 cencts. Also they want better supplies for there house. The relationship between her mom and her mother had changed because in the chapter Esperanza held out her arms and her mom told her that she looks selfish. Now Esperanza is starting to understand that her life is changing alot.

The difference between company camps and the camps where Marta works is that at company camps, people are grateful for what they have, and at camp where Marta works, people strike to get more money and better housing. Marta and the other workers want to strike because they want better housing. I know this because on page 132 it says,"This is what we are!" she yelled. "Small, meek animals. And that is how they treat us because we don't speak up. If we don't ask for what is rightfully ours, we will never get it." The consequences for striking is you lose your job and somebody else will get it. The relationship between Esperanza and Mama changed because since Papa died, all they have is themselves, so they spend more time with each other. I know this because on page 22 it says,"Esperanza's felt her heart drop. A noise came from her mouth and slowly, her first breath of grief grew into a tormented cry. She fell to her knees and sank into a dark hole of despair and disbelief."

The secret in the beginning of this chapter is that Alfonso and Miguel made a statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe surrounded by Papa's roses.I know this because on page 123, the text said, " It had been set on its side , forming a little shrine around a plastic statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe... Around it, a large plot of earth had been fenced in by sticks and rope and planted with thorny stems , each with only a few branches... Anza searched Miguel's face , her eyes hopeful. Papa's? Yes, these are your Papa's, said Miguel, smiling at her." The answer is a secret symbol because the roses were from Mexico, and tat was where Anza used to live. The sybol is of Papa because they used to be on papa's ranch, so that's why the symbol is of Papa. The difference between a company camp and the camp where Marta works is people at a company camp can't leave, and people who work at Marta's camp strike for better houses etc. Marta and the others want to strike because they want better houses and raises. But the consequences of striking may cost you your job. Mama and Espernza's relationship has grew since they left Mexico because they know things about each other that they didn't before.

The secret at the beginning of the chapter is alfonso and miguel built a statue of Lady Goulupe .there was papas roses from augacalienties sorrounded it.I think the roses represent the symbol.i think this because it said on page 125 mama said"didnt i tell you papas heart with find us wherever we go?".the diffrence between a company camp and marta's camp is,in the company camps they stay there for most of there lives.in martas camp they strike for things like better wages ,housing, etc.marta and the others want to strike because they wanted better housing.sometimes you get fired if you strike or decressed wages. i think the relationship between them has gotten better since papa died because on page 137 and 138 she talked about what they will pray for and mama said "i will pray for everything you said and more.i will pray for you."#17

1) the secret is that Alfonso and Miguel brought flowers from the ranch in Mexico to the yard outside of the cabin.
2) The symbol is of papas heart following them all the way to the USA.
3) The camps that Marta works in does not have partys like company camps do. Also they get payed much less than company camps and they have to live in tents.
4) Marta and the others want to strike because they live in bad camps where they only pay you a little for doing hard work and if they strike they might get better working conditions.
5) The consequences of striking are to loose your job and home and have no place to live and no money.
6) the relation between Esperanza and mama has changed because they probribly care even more about being together than they ever did because they lost papa and have been through a lot.

The secret in the beginning is Miguel and Alfonso made the statue our lady Guadalupe. It symbolizes the roses in papas ranch. So were ever they go papa's heart will be there . Also I think that the roses repersent Espranza and mama because they have been through alot and the have stayed strong and survive just like the roses did in the fire. The diffence between company camp and the camp that Marta is in that Marta's camp doesn't stay in the same place she moves around searching for work but the compay camps stay in the same place for a long a time. I think that marta and the others go on strke because they are jelous of people with more amount of money then them. the conequence for them is that they could loose there jobs. B#16

The relationship between mama and esperanza has grew since papa was alive and once he died they had to stick together and so they are the ones they have.

This is the symbol because it is saying that they can have the memories of Papa wherever they go. The diffrence between the company camp and the camps that Marta works at is that at the companay camp they're happy with what they get to work and live there. At the camp where Marta live they are always trying to strike for more money. Marata and the others want to strike because they want more money. The consequences of striking are that the people that work there now could get fired because more people are coming into the United state for work. Another one is that they could loose there jobs because they are on strike and the owners don't want to deal with that. The realastionship between Esperanza and Mama has changed becuase they are both starting to beleive that they have to be happy together. I know this because Esperanza is starting to be happy with what she gets.

The secret in the begining of this chapter is Alfonso and Miguel made a statue of Lady of Guadalupe out of the roots from the ranch. My proof is on page 122 it says," shh, he said it's a suprise." Why are you so ful of secrets asked Esperanza? The diference is Marta has to work and cannot leave the camp as much as the company camp so Esperanza and Isabel are lucky. Marta wants everybody to strike and not work so they can raise prices for the pound for each cotton. Some of the consequences are Marta might get thrown out of the camp or she might get arrested for what she is doing at this time where the country is struggling. Their relationship has changed because they both like to do work and chores but make it fun and they laugh at the mistakes they made.
