This story begins on a farm in Aguascalientes, Mexico. I know this because on page 4 it says "The August sun promised a dry afternoon in Aguascalientes, Mexico." What catches my attention in the chapter is that Papa is late coming home for Esperanza's birthday and they are all waiting for him. One thing that surprised me is that Alfonso and Miguel find Papa dead and bring him back to the house.

Thi story begins in 1924. I know this because on page 1 at the top it says "1924". This story begins in Augascalientes, Mexico. What catches my attention in this chapter is the language that the author uses because it is so descriptive. The author describes the kind of setting and backround that Esperanza lives in. What surprised me was how the author got so creative with how Eperanza and Papi could hear the "earth's heart beating". I wonder if it's true, that if you put your ear to the ground you can feel the earth's heart beating. I compliment Mr. Chugg for reminding me to add proof when I answer a question.

Esperanza Rising begins in Aguascalientes, Mexico in 1930. I know this becuse on page 4 it says "The August sun promised a dry afternoon in Aguascalientas, Mexico." In this chapter it catches my eye that Papa does not come home the day before Esperanza's Fiesta that they have every year. What surprised me is that Papa was all of a sudden dead when he was brought home. I wonder about why the men ambushed Papa. This left my mind wandering.

The story begins in Aguascalientes, Mexico. I know this because on page 4, the author wrote, "The August sun promised a dry afternoon in Aguascalientes, Mexico." . The fact that Esperanza was stuck by a rose thorn, and "she automatically thought,"bad luck." (p.8) and she experienced more bad luck caught my attention. I was surprised that papa died. I wonder what will happen to Esperanza now that Papa's dead.

This story begins in Aguasalientes, Mexico. I can tell because on page 4 the author writes:"The August sun promised a dry afternoon in Mexico. What really caught my attention in this chapter was: PAPA DIED SO SOON! It seemed as if the novel had just began and then Papa dies! It threw in a sort of depressing feeling into the book. It surprised me that the beginning of this story was so upsetting because I was expecting an interesting sort of beginning about how lucky she was. I wonder how Hortensia's husband was able to find Papa. Thank you #23 for the quote on page 4.

Esperanza Rising takes place in Auascalientes, Mexico. Page #4
"The August sun promised a dry afternoon in Auguascalientes, Mexico." Late in this chapter I had a feeling papa wasn't coming back... and I was right. I was suprised that Alfonso and Miguel came back with his body. I can connect this story to a movie called "Finding Neverland" when the mother dies and leaves her kids behind. I was left cliff hanging because at the end of the chapter it left me wondering who (specificly) killed papa and why!

This story begins in 1924 on a farm in Aguascalientes, Mexico. I know this because the first chapter title is "Aguascalientes, Mexico 1924." What catches my attention in the chapter is the description. I think I wasn't expecting such good descripion.
One thing that surprised me was that Papi said that they ( himself, and Esperanza.) could feel the earth's heart beat. One thing I wonder is why Papi didn't show up the night before Esperanzas birthday?

The story begins in 1924 in Aguascalientes Mexico because on page 1 it says "Aguascalientes Mexico 1924." Something that catches my attention is that Papa comes back with Alfonso and Miguel dead. Papa coming back dead also suprised me. I know Papa came back dead becuase on page 22 it says "Wheres papa? she cried. Miguel hung his head. Alfonso didn't say a word but the tears running down his round cheeks confirmed the worst. Mama fainted. Abuelita and Hortensia ran to her side. Esperanza felt her heart drop. A noise came from her mouth and slowely, her first breath of grief grew into a tormented cry." I wonder what Esperanza and Mama are going to do now that Papa has died. I want to thank Mr.Chugg for helping me remember to add proof to my answers.

I know this because on page 1 it says," Esperanza was six years old". Also, on page 4 it says,"The August sun promised a dry afternoon in Aguascalientes, Mexico." It caught my attention when Papa didn't come home when he was soposed to. It was so surprising that anyone would hurt him so much to kill him. I wonder what they did to kill him. The chapter I read was very suspensful, it kept me wondering.

The story begins in Aguascalientes, Mexico. I know it's in Mexico because on page 4 it says. "The August sun promised a dry afternoon in Aguascalientes, Mexico." also this tells you it begins in August. Something that catches my attention in this chapter is that the author writes the words in spanish then english. like on page 4 " "Cuidate los dedos," said Papa. "Watch your fingers." " This catches my attention because when I first read it I did not know what it ment. Something that surprised me was that Esperanza steals Papas beef jerky when she hugs him. One thing that makes me wonder is why dose her uncles not talk to her or pay atenttion to her.

Also on the back flap it says " Esperanza isn't ready for the hard labor, strugles brought on by the Great Depression." one thing that catches my attention is the discription. Thank you almost everyone for telling me the quote was on page 4.
